Are You A Kitty?

I wish that I had dreamed up cat cafes because I seriously understand the appeal. I was pouting about the house in a horrible mood until this little tartlet snapped me out of it. It's hard to be grumpy when you have someone purring in your lap...

{Oh, hello}

Other felines that might suit your fancy:
My favorite kitty blog, all the way from Japan: Maru
Smushy-face: Winston (I especially like the video of him as a glow-worm, and the ones of him eating things, like corn)
And who doesn't love tiny kittens?
Probably my favorite cat of all times (don't tell Fig!): Trololo Cat!

[Update: Someone left a dead bird on my pillow this morning. I have my suspicions about who it could have been....]

Llama Llama Llama!

{Or, how I'm going to pull myself out of a slump!}

I've been feeling quite lack-luster lately, something I've mostly attributed to working full-time again (ick). But, there are a couple things that I'm pretty excited about!

I have been wanting to do a triathlon for a long time but have always been worried about the swimming... or, in my case, the slow floundering (I always default to a breast stroke. Not efficient). But, after finishing the half-marathon in April I'm feeling slightly more confident! So, I finally signed up for one! (This one: Splash Mash Dash) And, because I know how I am about training for things, I signed up for the olympic length. That way I know I won't be able to do it without a lot of prep work and I'll actually have to train! Brilliant!

And, how did I never know about the Fairplay Llama Race??? A friend at work told me about it last week, and I obviously signed up immediately, but I'm kicking myself about all the years I've missed out on it! Her advise was to get there early and sweet talk the breeders into giving me a "good, fast llama," so I'll let you know.

And I found a local tri training club: HRCA Tri Club the membership fees are actually really reasonable and they meet weekly for spin and swim classes as well as various hiking and biking trips! Just what I need!

On a non-workout related note, I'm rocking a new look! I made myself up a new pair of glasses and I couldn't be more pleased with them! And, I permed my hair. The verdict's still out on whether or not it was a good decision. I went in thinking I'd leave with big, bouncy curls and instead I have a head full of ringlets (we're talking tiny curls here). But it's super low maintenance and I do love me some big hair, so I think it'll grow on me.

I don't know if anyone else saw last year's 5280 cover featuring dbar's cake and shake? It was laying on the table at work for months and I would steal glances at it almost every day. Admittedly, I was more smitten with the glass (I couldn't figure out if the dots were in the drink?) but it definitely made an impression. And the other day Moll and I hit up dbar on a whim, and let me just say BEST IDEA OF MY LIFE. We both ended up getting the cake and shake (how could you not, after seeing that fantastic foto??). And seriously, yum. Just go there.

But I'll leave with this little gem: Gaga/Eurythmics

Wa-Bam!

{How I am making a pledge to myself to get fit. And stay fit}

Since moving back in with the parentals I have been on an epic quest to find a good work-out situation (ie. a gym. or a class. or a gym with a class). Seriously, this has become quite the dilemma.
Numerous factors are at play here:
1. It can't be too expensive. Or, it could be expensive, but then must be highly justified
2. It has to be sort of close to home/work (so downtown is out of the question)
3. Preferably with a pool (I might try to do a triathlon later this summer. so I'd need to train!)
4.
I have to actually be motivated to go

Problem is, most of my options meet a couple of these criteria but not all (mega-gyms: cheap, close, pool! bored after 3 work-outs; crossfit: really close, love love love the workouts, expensive (yikes!) and no pool; yoga: sort of close, love going! but also expensive and again, no pool). So what have I done? A lot of sitting on the couch and bookmarking gyms "to look at later."

And the past few days I've been feeling more and more anxious. And cranky. And achy all over. And I realized, "hello! you're bored and you're body's telling you to get off your ass!" and I finally decided that I was going to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. (Not anything hasty, like make a decision about what gym to go to. Wouldn't want to rush a huge life decision like that...) So I dusted off my p90x tapes and finished a workout! And I decided that I am actually going to complete the whole 90 day program this time!

I feel like if I put it in writing, I'll have to do it (unlike last time, where I got busy and never made it past workout #1. but not this time, no sir.). So again,
starting today, I have 90 days of p90x!! Wish me luck!

Floating Somewhere In Between

Last night I dreamed that I went back to my old house and found a cabinet full of things I had forgotten there. There were random papers and misc. items and a TON of shoes. I just kept pulling them out of this cabinet and thinking "I don't remember buying these..." I woke up in a mild panic at the thought of having to move more stuff, and then got a little sad when I realized I didn't actually discover a forgotten shoe stash.

Currently Pondering/Coveting/Loving:
By far the hottest dj's I've ever seen (
I want that blonde curly hair!!): Moneypenny
I remember seeing something very similar at American Apparel and being intrigued. And it looks simple enough that I might just have to make my own!: the infinity dress
And an interesting site about lomography. Inspiration to get some fun lenses!

Flora and Fun

{Spending Time At Other People's Gardens}

Grrrr, I am really going to make a concerted effort to blog regularly! Need to work on that (obviously, 8 months between posts is anything but consistant...). That aside, Colorado really has been keeping me surprisingly busy lately, what with moving and studying and this new job. But mostly because it is absolutely beautiful outside right now; everything's blooming!

Dad and I both had the day off today so we stopped by the iris garden between errands. It's the weirdest thing: you drive down Federal, turn into a pretty low-budget neighborhood, and then all of a sudden there's a yard with tons and tons and tons of iris! Right in the middle of all these houses. And they are all blooming right now! And we somehow managed to get out of there without taking any home. But we did get tons of pictures (And, I suspect, maybe a little bit of heat stroke. It was hella HOT out there).

{All lined up!}

{Ha! [Insert Batman voice here]}

{One of my favorites (and I can't remember his name! Grr! It was obviously fabulous, though!)}

And, how lucky is Denver to have such an amazing botanic garden? My parents have had a membership for years and I was lucky enough to get my hands on my mom's card the other day so now I can go whenever my heart desires! The last two times I've gone we've packed a picnic and spent most of the day there, wandering, and eating, and wandering some more. It's a sunburn waiting to happen, but otherwise glorious.

{The Japanese garden}

{These peonies were HUGGGGE. The perfect bee buffet!}

Although, on this last visit we didn't see any orchids! Their old room has been turned into some sort of art gallery and there were none on the gigantic tropical tree! They are doing some major renovations so maybe they'll end up with a bigger and better room?? I'm not too bummed about missing them there, though, because my own orchids are lookin' pretty darn awesome. All but one of my phalaenopsis have bloom spikes (this is mind blowing, folks!)!!! It's amazing what plants can do when they aren't being hassled by nosy kitties...

A Post-Zombie Morning

We hit up Denver's zombie crawl last night. It consisted of lots of fake blood. And moaning. And dancing. And rude pizza boys at Benny Blancos. And a fantastic zombie couple dressed as Marie Antoinette + husband! Where do you even find a costume like that, and how can I get one for next year?? This morning was just what I needed: sleeping in, parents, mom's quiche, and homemade chai. Mmmm, sometimes I forget how much I love being home!

Currently Pondering/Coveting/Loving:

I like veggies just how they are, but this is pretty cool: Face-shaped Veggies??
They would have a hey-day if they ever stumbled upon my stash:
Grocery List Art
Fall fashion inspiration?: Black Widow
Beautiful wallpapers: Sketchbook
I named mine Juan Antonio: Build a Squid
